Europe is packed with cities to enjoy for a short break. Whether you find a cheap flight and decide to head off for a few days by the seat of your pants, or whether you plan it well ahead of time, your choice will not be an easy one, because of the sheer number of options available to you.
Of course, one of the most popular cities to visit in the whole of Europe, if not the whole of the world, is Paris.
The French capital is one of the most iconic places for a city break, and when you explore the reasons why, it’s not hard to figure out why tourist figures are so high year upon year, regardless of the month.
If you’re thinking about heading off on a Paris city break, you’ll certainly need to do a little pre-planning before you depart, to make sure you get the time to see everything you want to, during your visit.
Accommodation is never hard to come by in any city, but in Paris you have seemingly infinite choice. From large 5 star hotels, to cheaper options, guesthouses, to B&Bs, apartments to even camp sites (if you head a little out of the city itself), Paris is easy to visit. Low cost airlines also make getting to the heart of the city easy, and the simple Metro system will transport you from place to place.
If you’re travelling with kids, you can easily combine a stay in the middle of Paris itself with a few days in Disneyland Paris too. The park is only around an hour outside of the city by car, and much closer if you choose the train. You can pick up park tickets quite cheaply online, although do make sure you buy them from reputable dealers, and this will mean you don’t have to stand in queues first thing in the morning, wasting half your day.
Of course, inside the city itself there is more than enough to keep you occupied.
The Eiffel Tower is that iconic landmark that everyone longs to visit, and whether you make the journey to the top or not, the picture will stay with you for a long time afterwards. If you are planning on heading to the top of the tower, make sure you book your tickets ahead of time, because this is obviously going to be a hugely popular landmark, and queues are going to be horrendous if you decide to leave it too late! On top of this, a word of warning, there are no toilets at the top!
There are also countless museums to check out, such as the world-famous Louvre. A day spent exploring this landmark is a must do, as well as heading to some of the other famous sights, such as the Arc de Triomphe, or a cruise down the Seine; this is a great way to give you a different view of the city.
Shopping and gastronomy should also be on your list when you head to the self-proclaimed city of love, but however you get there, and whatever you choose to do, one thing is for sure – Paris is arguably the king of city break destinations.
